INTRO
During my time at BILD Zeitung, I worked as an editorial designer responsible for the daily layout of newspaper pages in a fast-paced newsroom environment. This role required making fast yet well-reasoned design decisions while ensuring clarity, consistency, and visual structure across constantly changing content.

DESIGN CHALLENGE
Designing for a daily newspaper means working with extremely high information density, rapidly changing content, and tight deadlines.
The core challenge was to transform complex and time-critical information into clear, scannable layouts that guide readers intuitively through the content – often within minutes.
EACH PAGE NEEDED TO BALANCE:

MY CONTRIBUTION
In my role as an editorial designer, I was responsible for translating editorial content into structured, reader-friendly layouts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED:
Design approach
My work focused on clarity, hierarchy, and a system-based approach. Headlines, images, and text blocks were carefully prioritized to make content easy to scan, while layout decisions were guided by content relevance and how readers move through information. Grid systems helped maintain consistency across pages while still allowing flexibility.
Overall, the goal was to reduce cognitive load and make information quickly accessible.

Relevance for UX/UI Design
My background in editorial design has strongly shaped the way I approach UX/UI design today. Working in a fast-paced newsroom taught me to think in systems rather than isolated screens, and to prioritize information clearly, especially in situations where readers are under cognitive load.
It also trained me to design for real users within real constraints, often requiring quick yet confident design decisions without compromising quality.
Skills such as establishing clear hierarchies, ensuring readability, working with grid systems, and making structured design decisions continue to directly inform my work in digital product design.

Key Learnings
One of the key takeaways from this experience is how essential clear hierarchy becomes when users need to process information quickly, especially under time pressure. I also learned that strong systems and structured layouts make it possible to work efficiently without compromising quality.
Finally, good design often requires making confident decisions even when the available information is limited.
